Databricks Photoshoot
March 2024

Databricks recently set up their new office on the top floor of Berlins renowned Eiswerk building. The views from here are pretty incredible, and the amount of natural light that fills the space is unbeatable.

I reached out to their team to propose the idea of taking some photography of their new space. They happily agreed and preparations began.
To start, I drew up a map of the 14 different angles I planned to capture. This was both to help myself on the day, but also to help the Databricks team onsite team understand my route and prepare the space prior to my arrival.

They had added numerous customisations to assist their workforce such as phone booths, soft seating, and large meeting pods and thus they wanted these specific elements highlighted.
Prior to shooting, the space had to be set up. Tidying and clearing away objects, aligning furniture, and intensionally placing certain items in frame.

Then it was time to shoot. Ensuring to capture a variety of angles that were symmetrical, off centred and/or detailed. As I previously mentioned, the amount of natural light that filled the space was amazing. Therefore, I wanted to capture this standout feature as best I could. This meant that bracketing was essential to capture both the outside and the inside.
I intentionally placed people in and around some of the frames to help give the space some life. Purposely including motion blur to give it that extra edge.

When it came to the edit, it was mostly basic corrections. Contrasts, temperatures, saturations etc. However due to the natural light, a large amount of masking was required to help tie everything together. Some perspective warping was also involved.

The final photographs showcase Databricks' new space in a true gleaming light. Honing in on their bespoke customisations, attention to detail, and general care of their company culture.
